Much like bad weather tore through the northern region the previous evening, the home side blew United aside at the their home ground. It was a result that firmly established their championship potential as they strengthened their place at the league summit.

Successive Losses for Manchester United

This outcome marked back-to-back WSL losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the first time since May 2024, placing them a significant margin off the league leaders with their trophy ambitions in serious doubt.

Skinner had attempted to make changes with a handful of adjustments. Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Dominique Janssen and Leah Galton all brought freshness, although the dropping of the high-performing Malard to the substitutes raised a few eyebrows.

The home side, on the other hand, could have increased their lead when a delightful Vivianne Miedema through ball sent Shaw away only for her to miss the chance but it was insignificant to the hosts.
